We had another successful and fun rehearsal on Saturday 30th March 2019 and we got a great group photo, although this isn't all of us!
About 30 players turned out for our first rehearsal for the 2019 concert, which is pretty good going considering a quite a few of our potential players are still busy with the Regional Brass Band Championships. It all went very well, we worked our way through about 20 pieces, some familiar and some not so. Lots of tea, coffee and biscuits were consumed and it was a great chance to catch up with old friends and also make some new ones.
Femmes Fortissimo are proud to announce Laura Hirst (Assistant Principal Cornet with Brighouse & Rastrick Band) as guest soloist at our forthcoming concert on Saturday 13th April 2019.
Brighouse & Rastrick, who were a pop sensation in 1977 with the Floral Dance, recently won the 2019 Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Championships at Huddersfield Town Hall, beating Grimethorpe Colliery Band into second place. The two bands will be representing Yorkshire in the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall later in the year. Laura, who returned to the band in 2018 after a break, made history back in 2010 when she originally joined Brighouse and Rastrick as the first female in the Band’s 119 years of existence. “We couldn’t be more delighted to have such an iconic woman player as Laura to come and join us for our concert” said organiser Kate Lock. “We’ve already got 46 players signed up, so this is going to be even bigger than last time. And with Laura Hirst joining us to play some solos, it’s going to be even better!” Book tickets at Eventbrite |
